Rabbi Binyomin Edery teaches class in college

Japan-University-Edery-Chabad

This week Rabbi Edery gave a lecture about Judaism to University Students in Ochanomizu, Tokyo.

Among the topics discussed :

The 7 Noahide laws as the basis for a peaceful civilization,

What is so unique about Jewish education ?

Why is there a low divorce rate among traditional Jews.

The History of the Jewish people.

What is the benefit and necessity of having a mentor.

Modesty as the foundation for the Jewish home,

Kosher laws and their reasonings.

The students and teachers found the lecture to be very interesting and an eye opener and they walked away with many fundamental ideas they thought to apply in their lives. One of the teachers explained that her grandfather was named Isaku after Isaac son of Abraham, and that he always said that there was a lot to learn from the Jewish people. He was one of the founders of this educational establishment.

Chabad Japan continues BBQ service for evacuees of Iwanuma.

On July 10, 2011 Chabad of Japan organized yet another huge BBQ event for the evacuees of Iwanuma, which, this time, served not only their favorite yakiniku or meat, yakitori or chicken sticks, beer and sake, and also sweet kakigori or slush and Canadian bread. They were glad that Rabbi Binyomin Edery had not forgotten about them, and happy with the food. Rabbi and Muto san will come back again and again bringing hope and joy to them. Many thanks to all who helped us run the event and all who provided relief aid generously.

Visit to Ministry of Justice

Visit to Ministry of Justice

We’ve been working very hard to improve the situation that surrounds detainees and prisoners, while we visit them weekly, to encourage them and give them hope.

Today, Rabbi and Muto san met with Senior Vice-Minister of Justice, Toshio Ogawa.

Rabbi spoke to him about the handling of Jewish detainees, especially one who has been detained for three years, without being allowed to keep our Jewish tradition and religious laws. Now that he has been convicted, they took away his Jewish garments. He used to buy fruits for food because of his strict observance of the dietary law. But this privilege has been also taken away and he cannot buy fruits anymore.

The minister promised that he will do his utmost to help us in this case and update us with any developments in this issue.

I hope there will be good news with this very soon.
